Our girl is a goof-ball

the scene from our house today

Summer of Love

Shame on me. Not one single anything posted in the month of July. Well, we've been busy traveling to Montana, and then Oregon, and then a quick trip back to Oregon. Each visit included a wedding of some kind. Each unique. Each simply wonderful.

I posted some pics from our trip to Montana late June, where I shared that the wedding was in 2 acts with an intermission (they had popcorn and beer!). This was Sam's friend, Jeff and his wife Suzie's wedding. It was lovely.

The second trip of the summer, was a trip to Oregon; the purpose of which was to attend my 15 year high school reunion, which I helped Shayla co-plan (big surprise...we were called "the planners" back in the day). Now the old adage says, "you can never go home again". Whoever said that never grew up in Creswell, Oregon. Many of the people I saw (for the first time in 15 years) were people I have known since I could start keeping a memory. July 3rd was a trip to Dorena Lake with our families; that evening was dinner and drinks on the green at Emerald Valley Golf Course. July 4th was a favorite of mine - parade and picnic in downtown Creswell. It was SOOO much fun, and even more fun sharing it with Sam. It was a very satisfying 2 days and still makes me smile when I think of it. I love those people.

The surprise on this trip was, of course, my sister getting married. She didn't even know it was going to happen. I have posted a few pictures below of the 1st and 4th winery we visited. Curt, my now brother-in-law was behind the scheme, which I'm sure was a logistical nightmare. He planned for approximately 16 of us to meet in a designated location in Medford, pile into a limo, travel to 4 different wineries, and then he and Steph would be married at the 4th. We of course had to pull all of this off and NOT say anything about the pending nuptials the entire time. Fortunately my sister's birthday is in July, so much of the celebrating was for her birthday (BTW, she and Sam were born on the VERY SAME DAY!). What a gem Southern Oregon wine country is - who knew how beautiful it was...and right in our own backyard. I encourage all my Oregonian readers to visit this place. Anyway - Steph was unsuspecting, but of course was thinking that it would be "totally lame" if they didn't get married with all of their family and friends present (did I mention that they had plans to visit the justice of the peace within the week)! The final event was held at Roxyann winery, in a beautiful setting with flowers nearby - someone plucked a magnolia off the tree, which was her bouquet. We cried. It was wonderful with a delicious Italian dinner to finish off the day. www.roxyann.com Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Schwartz for allowing us to enjoy this wedding, kid-free. Congrats to Curt and Steph who close on a house in Medford this Tuesday!!!

The final wedding of the Summer was for my cousin, Kimmy, who I remember as a baby. This was a very quick trip back home. The day was SOOOO HOT, but the wedding scene was spectacular. Very old-fashioned setting on a farm in Mt. Angel, just East of Silverton. Beautiful country!! I took a picture of what I thought to be such a cute idea...a "love is sweet" candy table, which was visited by more than just the kids...My favorite part of the wedding was watching Kimmy dance with my Uncle Steve. I choked up. Ada ate a cupcake.

The best part of the summer was sharing Ada with our family and friends and getting out of the oppressive Tucson heat. I am giving thanks for Allegiant Air with their convenient and CHEAP flights to Eugene, Oregon!

Now the update on Ada. Growing seems to cover it. I picked the picture above as the heading (taken at Kimmy's wedding) because it seems to encompass everything about her these days...on the go. This kid LOVES TO WALK. I am not kidding. I have been saying for a month now that I need a field that she can just walk about....thanks to Kimmy for having her wedding in just this very setting. Ada was content marching about the grass in her pretty dress and bracelet. Oh, and she has a thing for barrettes now. She just needs hair.

Her vocabulary is expanding, both spoken and sign. I've started to keep a written list because my brain is too full of other things to keep it all in my memory to share with her someday. I hope you enjoy the collage of photos posted below. I hope this makes up for a month of nothingness.

Spoken: Hot, Cracker, Hi, Bird, Dad, Mom, Daddy, Mommy...and something that sounds like "Up"

Sign: More, all done, bird, milk, chicken, cracker, up and down. She saw a picture of the Turkey my sister adopted for us and started signing chicken. Works for me.
